CHASSIS CONFERENCE - 23RD. MAY 1938. PHANTOM III. 1381 The following is a list of major items which it is proposed to fit on the next 10,000 miles test. DESCRIPTION. REMARKS. Crankshaft - .4% Carbon steel with Packard type balance weights to ECD. 284. New Dies and Web Grinding tackle etc., required. Slight C'case pattern alteration necessary. Approx saving per chassis £7.0.0d. Saving is provided by cheaper material, also simplified forging and machining. Tool cost including Dies £800.0.0d. recovered after 110 chassis. (Handwritten) REPORT ON MATERIAL FOR CRANKCASE % SCRAP REPORT Dynamo & Water Pump - running at 1 1/2 X engine speed to provide lower dynamo cutting in speed. ECD.551. ECD. 623. Mods to crankcase & wheelcase patterns and jigs required. New Water Pump casing & Cover. New dynamo pinion, existing dynamo idler & dynamo pinion centres altered. Factory cost of chassis would not be greatly affected but tool cost of about £125.0.0d. involved. (Handwritten) ANY OTHER ECONOMIES Oil Pump - Relief Valve & Pressure Filter altered. These mods necessary to clear side steering tube used with Wraith wheel movement introduced at 1 in E.Series. Snout angle altered in oil pump casing. New relief valve casing. A/C Filter (as on Wraith) replacing present R.R.Filter. Present R.R. Filter complete costs 30/- Proposed A/C Filter 2/6d. | ||
