35-EX. PHANTOM III.

We beg to confirm our telegram :-

" 35.EX. WATER PUMP FILTER SATISFACTORY
" NO TROUBLE THERMOMETER CAPILLARY.

in reply to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/AP.12.3.37.

I saw the filter in the water pump snout when the pump was dismantled in Paris. I was satisfied with its condition and that it performs what is required of it.

There has been no trouble with the new thermo-meter capillary. We have listened during the running for any noise transmitted but have heard none.

Regarding the engine side guards, these were very bad at first and the engine became covered in mud from the top of the air silencer downwards. They were extended ten inches further back along the chassis either side which improved matters, but they are not as effective as the standard side shields.

It was also necessary to cut away the transverse front shield to clear the exhaust pipe on the side towards the engine and also round the main oil pipe, to allow for the movements of the engine.

We think that they would come in for strong criticism for appearance. In unpainted aluminium as fitted to this car, they are very noticeable and the square lower edges look most unfinished. They would be better if they were curved in at the bottom. They require to be painted, and ofcourse we cannot say how long the paint would stay on.
