Paris, Aug. 26th.

30 HP. GUL.4 Paris Trials.

As telephoned to you yesterday we cannot make a good job of the steering. I had Waller up here on the job. The trouble first found after removing the steering complete from the car, was, end play in the column shaft and end play in the cam shaft approx. .006" in each case. This allowed slack of the steering. Upon taking up this clearance, it was then found that in the central position the pendulum lever was slack, turning the column shaft approx. 1/8 of a turn either way the pendulum lever became tight. (no clearance.)

Further turning it became slack, then tight again, approx. one full turn from centre position, then slack again for the remainder of the lock. It was the same right or left hand.

In our opinion from blueing the cam, and getting bedding results, the cam is not true. We are having this steering sent back for your attention. please note, as stated, when taken down, there was end play in both shafts, but after dismantling and refitting we could not reproduce this end play. Bear this in mind when trying the steering.
