For the attention of C.H.Smith Esq.

Dear Sirs,

We are writing to confirm our telephone message of this morning when we mentioned that the first sample steering roller to your N.2784 was very satisfactory apart from a slightly high pre-load. We have not yet checked the hardness and case etc., but will do this after running a rig test.

It was arranged over the telephone that the next sample batch of rollers should include one with 0.0002" and one with 0.0004" axial interference, to enable us to determine the limits which we can allow.

With reference to your letter JHW/EH.99910.A. we confirm that it is quite in order for you to reduce the dia. of the lip on the inner races to 0.939 + 0.001.

We are anxious to receive the smaller rollers, your No. N.2790, which you are making for us. We would suggest that, in view of our experience with the sample large roller, that the axial interference on these should be 0.0002" to 0.0004".

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
