It is possible that even when these springs are fitted, the owner may still desire more damping. Should this occur, there is a scheme for supplementing the standard hydraulics with single type Hartfords at the front and rear. They are only required for abnormal conditions. When fitted on the front they improve the high speed steering. The best all round setting for fast touring is 40 lbs. It should be impressed on the customer that a load greater than this will make the car ride harshly. The Hartford should be slacked right off for normal conditions.

The steering is somewhat improved at high speeds by increasing the pivot lean to 2.75º backwards lean. 3º should never be exceeded or high speed wobbles may be brought up.
