304 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 17th November, 1936. C.W. Ward, Esq., Messrs. Park, Ward & Co.,Ltd., 473, High Road, Willesden, LONDON. N.W.10. Dear Mr. Ward, Thank you for your letter of the 16th, together with the Bentley weights. I think these are what we require and will write you again when we have gone into them further. I do not know whether you have the weights for the Bentley bodies since you first started to introduce the standardised saloon, but if they are available they also would be of interest. I attach a summary taken from production weights showing how the standardised saloon has increased in weight since its inception. The thing that surprises me is the difference between the original all-steel Bentley body, which, apart from the door stops wedges and locks, put up a remarkably good show, and the all steel bodies as being delivered to customers. Yours sincerely, P.S. I have marked two of the items to demonstrate that the production steel body is almost 1 cwt. heavier than the original one which we had experimentally. | ||
