GRY{Shadwell Grylls}: Please deal with this X1166 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHO. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/HP.23.6.36 Dm{D. Munro} Bentley Jacking System. Herewith are N.Sch's 4832 and 4833 which shew the jacking pads on respectively the rear and front springs, modified to suit the new jack with a solid head shewn on N.Sch.4830. The modification to the front pad is small and consists principally in extending the guides for entering the jack, as required in CWH's reports from France. The rear pad has been modified to resemble the front in type, so as to increase resistance to stone-battering and jacking up on the wrong place. We understand that Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} will confirm that in the position shewn, the jacks give the required lift, and can be got under with one tyre off; this to be done by making use of existing pads and the existing sample jack, and until this information is available detailing the pads can be held over. The position of the pad on the rear spring is important. We should like the dimension 8¾ from the spring eye to the jack centre to be maintained, otherwise the lift will be affected.
