| COPY OF LETTER FROM MR. RAYMOND MAYS. English Racing Automobiles Ltd., Bourne, Lincs. TRM/JB. 23rd March, 1937. A.F. Sidgreaves, Esq., Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd., 16, Conduit Street, London, W.1. Dear Mr. Sidgreaves, With further reference to my letter of the 22nd about modification of the brakes, I am looking forward to hearing from you as the racing season is so near, and when once this starts I am afraid the Bentley will be in constant use. Before the Season starts there are one or two other important points which require attention. (1) I should like one of your expert drivers from Derby to come out with me to have your opinion on the "thumping" set up by the big ends which seems to have increased lately, possibly due to slight wear having put up big end clearances. (2) During the last week or so the car has become less steady on the road, and the front is generally considerably "looser" than it should be. At high speeds over fairly uneven surfaces the front axle appears to be unsteady, and the wings and headlight move considerably more than standard. This sets up a slight vibration through the chassis and up the steering, which spoils the stable feeling of the car. (3) When the modification is carried out to the front brakes I should like all four drums to be carefully examined, and also the linings, as they have had some very hard use. I shall look forward to hearing from you. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, (Sgd.) Raymond Mays. | ||
