To RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1020 Wraith Bearing loadings. We attach hereto Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 368 giving the polar diagrams for Wraith III journal loadings, & also comparative figures for Bentley & the larger dia. crankpin scheme. The following points are of interest. (1) On Bentley the intermediate journals are the most heavily loaded bearings. (2) On Wraith III the big end loadings are increased 3%, but the journal loadings are reduced 39% for the centre & 42% for the intermediates. (3) Apart from possible beneficial effects due to increased torsional stiffness, the larger pin diameter is of negligible advantage. | ||
