X.1607 - TREMBLER COIL - SPECIAL TREMBLERS

We are sending to you under separate cover a four volt R.R. trembler coil with a trembler of special design on the lines indicated by you in your RLO/W14.8.17.
We have made a few tests on this coil but as you are requiring this, we have not so far gone into the matter completely and therefore are not definitely able to say that this is the best form of trembler that we know. As this coil is sent to you, we think it has the adjustment giving the best results and minimum current on four volts, but as explained below, it will be found to work better on six volts owing to the higher trembler frequency and consequently less current taken.
The hole in the vulcanite armature stop is purposely large so that this stop can be experimentally varied up and down. At the moment we think you will find it in the central position vertically which we thought gave the best all round results.
So far as we have gone we have not been able to appreciate any very definite advantage on the whole over the standard form of trembler. We have made experiments with this coil and others, using a revolving vacuum tube, running at a definite speed so as to be able to compare the rapidity of vibration of the various tremblers, and also the intensity of the discharge.
