To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} X8770 R3/M13.11.26. PHANTOM IMPROVEMENTS. X. 8770 X. 8140 I am very sorry to cause pressure in these RR. F.10 troublesome times, but Sales are continually complaining of the want of perfect governor control of the Phantom throttle. You will remember that we have aksed for this to be fitted with roller bearings and an increased shut angle, the latter more like the original design. We should have thought that a couple of men could be spared to keep this going. The other complaints referred to in BJ's memo. of 12.11.26 are either the result of mismanagement, or are well in hand. There is the heat guard for the rear silencer, the springing is all that can be achieved when suitable springs are fitted in relation to the weight of the car, the steering is now I believe enormously better than the Silver Ghost, the jumpiness in running at slow speeds I have not experienced, the banging in the exhaust has never troubled me except with open cutout, and then only when the throttle is left partly open.
