X4063 CC Mr. Belnap Mr. Nadin Oy10 - G 19821 August 19, 1921 Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, England. Attention: Mr. Royce & Works Committee. Dear Sir:- Re: Brake Brackets on Rear Axle In reply to By2/P23.5.21 and Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1/IGS.5.21, this matter has received the consideration of Messrs. Nadin, Platford, Bagnall, Hulley and Southern, and they have read the above letters. The following are their remarks: Mr. Nadin: "Until we have some positive evidence of the evil of brazing at this point, we should not make the change. The circumstances under which 4-EX failed were not exceptional here." Mr. Platford: "As no trouble, as far as I know, has been experienced with brazed brackets, whereas under American conditions trouble has been experienced with the soldered type, should agree that Springfield continue brazing, unless Derby have definite vices against it. Tubes must not be overheated - more than that required to braze." Mr. Caswell: "I believe a brazed job will prove more satisfactory and enduring." Mr. Bagnall: "Feel sure brazing is the right job - experience proves this to be so." Mr. Hulley: "Think brazing should be continued, as I have had no complaints to date." | ||
