Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 4th instant and beg to say that we have received the sparking plug referred to. Upon examination of the same however we note there are several points in connection with its design which would prohibit it for use on our engines. The most serious being the leakage characteristics of the "Quartz" insulator at high temperatures, the tendency of the insulator to crack and break into the cylinder head, and the fact that the "Quartz" insulator is loose on the spindle. The fact that this insulator is loose when running with Ethyl fuel would immediately provide a conductive path at the top end of the insulator to earth and the plug would then be useless.

Thanking you for the sample sent along,
we remain,

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
