72 X78C 23rd March 1911 C.J. 23/3/11 R2/D23311 With reference to your memorandum CJ 30/C8311, we could undoubtedly say what you suggest, but I don't think I shoul say much about the loss of sweetness as with this smaller area there is little doubt that we could get the speed with quite a nice runnin'g engine, since, no doubt, we are getting rid of a great deal of the harshness by the improvements of the current cars. We have found that a moderate increase of compression makes very little difference to the sweet running of an engine, and I feel that there is no doubt that we shall have to be prepared, at least for the French market, as to supply/a standard fitting an exhaust cutout and an engine which will do over 50 B.H.P. on the dynamometer at a speed of 1750 revs. For instance, Mr. Northey was quite satisfied that the engine I showed to him (1600 or its sister now numbered 1649) was as satisfactory as 1100 engine, and I have no doubt that R | ||
