Mr. Fedden's Bentley Car.

Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E.22.11.34.

We have now tried this car after it has had the normal modifications carried out, such as changing the front axle, valves etc. Answering the points you raise in your memo :-

(1) Steering.

The larger cross steering tube ball ends have been fitted to the car. With these we have increased the friction in the steering to the minimum, which will eliminate the low speed wobble of which he complained. A little running will show if we have gone far enough.

(2) Front Shock Absorbers etc.

It is very difficult to form an exact opinion of what Mr. Fedden's trouble is without being able to ride in the car with him. We consider the springing as it stands is an excellent compromise. In view of his remarks, however, we are raising the shock absorber loading. The headlamps do move considerably but since he has not specifically referred to them we do not think it is necessary to fit the bumper bar.

(3) Tappets.

These have been dealt with by the Repair Dept.

(4) Gearbox Rattle.

This has been dealt with by the Repair Dept. and is now satisfactory.
