BENTLEY. 3. FRAME. FRONT END. We send herewith HD.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}76 shewing a revised treatment of the front end of the Bentley 3 frame in the vicinity of the front suspension. The project has for its object the following features :- (1). The elimination of stressed welded joints. (2). To follow closely the well used design of the Packard. (3). To provide an open-ended front pan. (4). To eliminate brackets for attaching the shock damper, (5). To avoid the weakening effect of the holes in the front pan through which pass the frame gussets. Because the frame has been taken round the pan and the gusset carried inwards, we suggest that rivets alone may be used for the attachment, but welding at intervals can be used for attaching the gusset at the side channel. The spring has been moved inwards and bears the same ratio in position relative to the yoke piece and the inner bearing as the Packard. We shew the modified lower triangle lever of the latest construction. The frame extensions have increased centres and this will necessitate a modified bumper looped spring bar. We shew the rebound stop and a modified scheme of FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}72 will be sent for the bump rubbers. The modifications consist only of details to apply the scheme to the modified frame. A scheme is in hand for mounting the damper F.CD.249 on the revised frame. | ||
