To R AH, from EFC. c. CJ. & FN. c. EY. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL EFC1/T5.9.23. X.4414P - P & R BATTERIES FOR GOSHAWK. We have recently received from Messrs. Peto & Radford three batteries of their BPH9 type which have six-compartment moulded cell cases, these being of P & R standard size, the batteries being loaned to us for the purposes of tests on that particular feature. (These batteries are less tall than the R.R. standard P & R battery, but the capacity is made up by their having nine-plate sections in place of seven). All three of these batteries are being put on experimental cars for the purpose of trying out the particular feature of the six-compartment moulded cell case, after which tests the batteries are to be returned. We shall arrange for one of these batteries to be on the next Goshawk car (4GII we believe) which is sent to you. As regards the special advantages of the six-compartment moulding over the separate Dagenite cells which we have at present, and also as regards the possibility of impurities in the Dagenite material deleterious to the electrolyte, please see copy of a letter from P & R which we sent to you under cover of our EFC1/T28.2.23, also copy of a report of Mr. Hall H12/EAS.5.23. sent under cover of our EFC2/T8.5.23. At the moment we know of no reason why the six-compartment moulded cell case should not be a very much better proposition than the present arrangement of Dagenite cells in teak containing case.
