CJ from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} [Strikethrough] c.to Bj. c.to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c.to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} [Strikethrough] X9410 Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/WJ10.9.24. EAC.111 - Front Axle. I duly received yours CJ2/E9.9.24. Mr.Mark Firth and Mr.Stansfield (Spring Designer) attended here yesterday afternoon to inspect the alleged defective springs returned from France. Mr.Royce's criticisms of Firth's springs and "A" type clip were communicated to them by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Rg.{Mr Rowledge} and they will report to Firths. Mr.Mark Firth brought with him a letter from Thos.Firth & Sons Ltd. signed by Mr.Fairholme, Managing Director, regretting that it would not be possible to discuss the matter until Mr.J.Wortley Fawcett returns on the 15th inst; therefore I do not think that matters can be advanced to any extent until Tuesday next, 16th inst., when we hope Mr.Fawcett will come here. I explained to Mr.Mark Firth that in the meantime we need 43 1/4" front springs to enable construction of chassis to be continued, adding that any 43 1/4" front springs which are at present fitted will probably be removed subsequently when we have standardised the type of spring to be used. I had previously conferred with Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} with regard to this matter and we unanimously agreed that not less than 50 pairs of front springs should be obtained; therefore we addressed a letter to Firths last night asking them to make us 50 pairs of springs of the 25% stiffer type fitted with their "A" type clip, pointing out that they have in stock the material for these springs, said material being included in the statement which they had sent to us on the 22nd ult. with invoice amounting to £304.16.9d. which had been passed to their credit in account. We asked them to commence delivery at the rate of not less than 12 pairs per week a fortnight hence and continue at this or a higher rate per week until the order is completed.
