as regards cutting in speed and we think we ought to get it on as quickly as possible. The trouble is that we have no suitable switch for the Smith Dynamo. We do not think that the Lucas people would agree to supplying us with their Switchboard for use with the Smith Dynamo nor do we think that it would be advisable that we should ask them to do so. The only form of switch which the Smith people can offer at present is the type which we do not approve of.

We consider it is most urgent that we should obtain a switchboard so that we can take advantage of the improvement we obtain with the Smith Dynamo.

The suggestion we make is to modify and alter our own switch to suit the closed circuit wiring, we could then use -

1. Smith Dynamo.
2. Smith Cutout fixed separate from Switchbox.
3. R.R. Switchbox.
4. Glovers ferflex cable covered with sheathing round Dashboard.

X.3555 The fault which was on the Distribution Board when 6.EX Car was at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town we found was due to the wires which pass under the cutout being squeezed so that the insulation cover was cut through. Since rectifying that fault we have had no further trouble. X.3743 X 393 We are now preparing to fit to 2.EX Car with a Smith Dynamo and the latest arrangement of aluminium tubes for the earthed wiring scheme. We can, on there, carry out any modifications which was thought desirable to do to the Distribution Board and Cutout.
