re Wind Tone Horns.

With reference to your Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}25/E.7.4.37 concerning the above subject, we have a feeling at N that customers' complaints on this matter are not abnormally serious.

We have so far changed 87 pairs of the original horns for the modified type. Out of these, 27 pairs were against complaints from customers of failures. The remainder of the changeovers were in accordance with our standard instructions to change all originals for the modified type.

We have also had to change 17 pairs of the modified ones owing to recurrent failure, and these of course have been against customers' direct complaints.

We only know of two actual cases where owners have requested that some other type of horn should be fitted in place of the Lucas wind tone horns.

The first case, Dr. Perkins, agreed to have a pair of Lucas Alto high frequency horns such as we used to fit to Phantom II's, and these we have supplied and fitted this week.

The second one, the case of Lord Bearsted, we were asked to send to Banbury to change the horns on both of his Phantom III cars for another type. We explained to him that no other type was available, but in conjunction with Messrs. Lucas, two pairs of especially prepared horns were sent. Also, Lucas sent a representative together with our electrician, to see them installed, and apparently Lord Bearsted is now satisfied as we have heard nothing about the matter since.

We understand that Lucas now finally set the horns in a freezing atmosphere, and we feel that they are really making a better job, so that altogether it is quite feasible that the complaint may die out without our having
