[Crossed out: P.T.] FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Copy to [Crossed out: SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}] HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Copy to [Crossed out: C. GY.] [Handwritten: x7260 y5-60] CONCEALED BONNET [Crossed out: SIDE] HINGE. P. 2. & 25HP. We send herewith N. schemes 3126. and 3127., shewing a scheme for covering over the bonnet side hinge with a metal shield on P. 2. and 20HP. respectively. The material of the cover should match the top hinge, and will conform to the external finish of the chassis. The material of the side hinge will be stainless steel [crossed out: always]. We suggest that the scheme should be tested with a view to its adoption as standard on both cars. Its great virtue is that the side hinge may be either polished as now, or painted to form a continuation of the Hibbard & Darrin moulding. Coachbuilders have treated our bonnet like this, and we are sending you a rough model which we have shewn to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, who has expressed his approval. Theoretically we have xxxxx [typed over 'changed'] the contour of the bonnet top panel, but we believe that this is too small to necessitate a change in the dashboard contour. We are anxious to get this modification, and all the other bonnet modifications, e.g. (a) bonnet over dash. (b) bonnet supported at hinge. (c) bonnet edge stiffened. (d) better metal for louvred bonnets. tested and standardised as soon as possible. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} [Stamp: ORIGINAL] | ||
