Endurance Running in France. 22-G-V.{VIENNA} The main object of the test at present in progress on the 20/25 is to prove out the modified exhaust valve which is at present fitted to the car. At the same time it is necessary to prove out the life of the white metal main bearings and the Hall's metal big ends with the big bore 20/25 engine. This of necessity means that 10,000 miles running in France should be completed as soon as possible. During this running we should like to get a figure of merit for the standard radiator with the big bore engine, and compare it with the new radiator which you have at Chateauroux. At the completion of 10,000 miles we shall follow out with the deturbulated cylinder head and an ignition governor to suit. The object of this cylinder head is to give a smoother engine on the pick up and a pleasanter engine under idling conditions. It is important that the benefits or otherwise of this head should be confirmed as soon as it is changed over. We want to get some endurance running on this deturbulated cylinder head. We may or may not send out some extra low rating road springs and a roll rod to be fitted at the same time as the cylinder head is changed. | ||
