-2- The Silent Tread is by no means the worst tyre on the road for skidding and we actually carried out tests on Palmer Cord tyres which were 15% worse than the Silent Tread. When clay is spread over the surface of the road the Tread pattern is of much more account and the difference between the Triple Stud tyres and Silent Tread rises to over 100%. The Dunlop Co. demonstrated that the Silent Tread tyre only required a very small modification to make it as efficient as the Triple Stud tread on an ordinary wet Tar Macadam road, but have not decided definitely what alteration to make until they have more evidence on all surfaces. We are working closely with Messrs. Dunlops on this subject and improving their methods of testing, also indicating what lines these tests should take, and we think the results should be of value as very little research has ever been done on tread patterns. The original non-skid tread having been produced when the majority of roads were not tar surfaced. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
