Re Phantom Slipper Wheel

We fitted up a slipper wheel with the Cotton duck friction rings.
To obtain our standard poundage of slip i.e. 18LBS at 17 1/2 RAD. we found that it was necessary to discard half the springs, the remaining springs being wound up chock-a-block. Then being released a half turn back giving a load per spring of 26 lbs.
This gave us a load of 16 lbs at 17 1/2 rad. just slipping. In our tests there was approx no first initial load during the day. After leaving the slipper wheel standing for 15 hrs. there was an initial load of 1 lb but after once moving the wheel this disappeared.
Upon leaving it for the weekend there was an initial load of 6 lbs & this again disappeared after once moving the wheel. The road test
