X5840 16.12.31. X5840. 13-3-IV. CHASSIS. C.10. UNIT AFTER 10,000 MILES TEST. X4663 CRANKCASE AND BEARINGS Crankcase O.K. Whitemetal broken away from shell on the following main bearings:- No. 4. Cap half. No. 2. Case half. No. 3. Both halves. Oil grooves in small bearings cap choked up with deposit. The interior stationary parts of the engine were generally covered with a film of moist carbon deposit. CRANKSHAFT All journals in good condition. A very heavy deposit of sludge was found in the crankpin bores extending into the cavities of the crankshaft oilers. Deposit in crank journals was also more than usually found after similar mileage. PISTONS Heavy "pitchy" carbon deposit on piston crowns. Oil holes in perfect circle rings choked up with deposit. Pistons otherwise O.K. CONNECTING RODS General conditions of connecting rods and bearings good. Small portion of whitemetal broken away from cap half of No.2. rod bearing. CYLINDERS Cylinder bores in good condition.
