January the 28th. 39. Mr. S.A. Shawe C/o.{Mr Oldham} Mr. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Scoins 120 Hurst Gate, Mexborough, Yorks. Dear Shawe, While you have been away it has struck me that it would be an advantage in view of the ideas I have in mind, to show the experimental Engineers at Rolls-Royce the principle of cushioned energy, and I have written to them saying I have asked you to call there on Monday morning. I have written to the above address as I know that is where you stay with your Brother-in-law week ends when you are up North, but if I had anticipated you calling at Rolls-Royce I might have given you some of our test photos to take, but you will be able to explain the job to them primarily, and if they want a test give them one. Don't offer any excuses about the Car. Simply tell them the truth as to what the Car does and what abuses we put it to. Your Thursday's mileage was 137.780 and I have told the Rolls people that the mileage is approximately 140.000. Don't exaggerate anything to them as apart from it being unnecessary they have ways of finding things out in their Laboratories, and generally, Inventors stories are discounted by these big Engineers. Yours Faithfully, | ||
