IMPROVED CONTINENTAL PHANTOM II.

The improved performance of the 25 HP. as on 20-04, and the further improvements which we think can easily be added to this car makes it imperative that we should improve the performance of the Continental Phantom II.

There is, of course, the other reason that although we obtained a number of orders with the introduction of the Continental model, there have been too many complaints from the buyers that they are disappointed in the performance of this car.

It has been shown on 27-EX. recently that we can produce a Continental type car which would have a better performance than anything we know of at present being sold. Not only has it got a remarkable performance, but it still remains smooth, silent, and flexible.

In order to obtain the performance and to retain the present reliability, it would be necessary to make the following modifications compared with the present standard Continental model :-

(1) Modified cylinder head to allow for higher compression and the exhaust heating of two carburetters. This would mean a new casting.

(2) Modified camshaft - longer duration, higher lift.

(3) Modified valve springs and tappets springs.

(4) Modified rear silencer. This is in order to reduce the loss when the cut-out is shut. It is desirable but not essential.

(5) S.U. carburetters and induction system to suit.

(6) Modified controls to suit No.(5). We propose to leave off the governor, as this is quite unnecessary on this car.

(7) Petrol pump in place of autovac.

The above represent the modifications necessary in order to obtain the increase in power.
