Contd. -2- EFC5/T23.10.23. too early and that the increased range is not being used for the reason for which it was originally added, viz. to improve the starting by retarding the ignition lever, so that this feature would appear to be no better than previously - therefore not satisfactory. Our previous note EFC2/T17.10.23 supposed that all the additional range was added to the retard, which makes the timing figures differ by 21° from the present figures. If the maximum retard point is only 5° a.d.p. then no extra periphery is necessary on the leading corner of the rotor blade to accommodate the magneto spark, which is then (at d.p.) only 5° earlier than the battery (at retard). One of the special points claimed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} for the trailing portion of the rotor blade is the fact that it enables starting by retarding the lever to be possible. We should be glad to be favoured with your remarks in this connection. MADE AT CROXLEY EFC. | ||
