Dear Healey, It occurs to me that possibly the Dunlop Rubber Co. thinks that the staff of the Engineering Dept. at Rolls-Royce are very difficult people with whom to deal. Under the circumstances, it would perhaps be of value if we were to put down some of the reasons why we feel that the technical service which we are getting from the Dunlop Co. might be improved. I have from time to time stated all these facts to your various representatives, but possibly the information has not reached you. The present position is that the whole performance of the modern car is dominated by the tyre. The propulsion energy of the power plant has to go through the tyre, upon which also the directional stability of the vehicle depends and its ability to negotiate corners. The general automobile development progress with regard to increase in engine power output, reduction in weight and improvement in suspension, has been so marked that the service demanded from the tyre is now more arduous than hitherto. Of recent years we have been concerned to find that we invariably get more information from France and America than we do from English tyre manufacturers. | ||
