To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. BJ2/H7.8.24. X766 40/50 HP. OVERHEATING. We forwarded particulars of a complaint of a 40/50 H.P. overheating (Mr. Skinner) to R.{Sir Henry Royce} for his informa- tion. He replied as follows:- "The office here is closed but I write a few words on the above. We shall have available the modification which will just suit this type: in the meantime we could give him: Radiator 22 matrix. Slightly larger sized fan. I fear the H.S. one does not drive full speed always. Water heated throttle which may make slight improvement. Louvred bonnet. Remove the thermostat. I endeavour again to prevent the engine throwing out water instead of steam. If we could separate the steam from the water and not let the owner see the escaping steam we should never hear anything about it, because it would take a long time to lose a pint of water if it all went away in steam. I will get Hives working upon it when he returns. . You do not like a still higher radiator like Hispano. The overhead valve engine does not heat so much water for the same work." B.J. | ||
