Date 22.12.36 (handwritten: 29.12.36) X No. 236 Drawing No. EB.2844 Description of Parts: Aerolite piston. Origin: Piston failures on endurance tests; Report of Experimental Test. The heat break sawcut on this piston is in the scraper ring groove. This modification has doubled the life of piston on endurance tests. The piston has also a modified grinding of skirt in order to give greater margin from cold knocks and less risk of seizing. The skirt dimensions are, top :- 3.496, bottom :- 3.500. This piston satisfactorily passed recent 17,000 miles test in France in conjunction with high pressure scraper rings.
