I hope that you are sound in wind and limb.

I gather the French aircraft factories had rather an exacting time from aerial bombardment and expect that you have been in the thick of it.

We are hoping that you will be able to get over and give us some first-hand information as to the best procedure to adopt in factories during air raids.

I am sorry to worry you with relatively unimportant matters but Paulin is very worried because Franco-British is not recognised as a Reserved Occupation firm.

Why he has not tackled you direct I do not know unless he finds it difficult to get hold of you. However, I expect you will transfer him to your personal staff, which is very definitely engaged in winning the War, or else have him transferred back to Kellner's.

Incidentally, with regard to his salary, I do not feel that under the circumstances we should do more than pay him the normal retaining fee, which we pay consulting engineers, of £100 a year.

Please let me know what you think about this as his contract has now expired.
