This machine is strongly made and has a well finished appearance, with a weight of 16.1 lbs, as compared with the 11.7 lbs of the standard Watford, and the 18.25 lbs of the Bosch, aluminium being used to a greater extent than on the Bosch which would perhaps account for the difference in weight. With the exception of one outstanding feature it does not differ greatly from the average machine, while in many respects it is similar to the Bosch Z.R.6. The H.T. collector brush, safety gap, and distributor are of the usual type, the distributor having a large revolving carbon brush, and heavy cover carrying very large segments. There is, however, no means of ventilation for the interior of the cover. The contact breaker which is almost identical with that on the Bosch, includes an original arrangement for lubricating the cams. This consists of a piece of felt held down on the tapered end of one of the cams, by a short flat spring which is secured to the cam ring, by two small screws. The main feature, however, is in connection with the pole-shoes. Here, as far as can be seen, the tip of one of the pole-shoes is permanently extended in the direction of rotation, with the extension somewhat narrower than Contd. | ||
