NOTES ON A VISIT TO VAUXHALL'S

ON MARCH 6th. 1940.

We visited Vauxhall's on
Wednesday March 6th. with a view to discussing current
automobile design problems, with Mr. Taub.

Unfortunately, we found that he
had done very little since our last visit, as will be
seen from the attached Memo. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}

We were interested to find,
however, that he had received a medal for his paper
on Cylinder Bore Wear.

During the discussion on the
subject, he reversed his opinions, as usual, a number
of times; the most interesting point arising from
the discussion being that, having told the British
Motoring Industry that it was unnecessary to use materials
other than normal cast-iron to get necessary cylinder-life,
he is putting special iron, in the form of liners, in
his new engine.

His latest Bedford engine is
250 cu. in. displacement and gives maximum torque
185 lbs. ft. and weighs 570 lbs.

The weight included:-

Fly-wheel.
Intake and Exhaust Manifolds.
Carburettor.
Electrical Equipment. (which included a 4 1/2" dynamo.)

He is using a 2 1/2 diameter
crankshaft, B.H.P. pistons and short liners.
