Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} WW. Sgl/M/21.12.27. Re: Sports Chassis. I give below copy of memo from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} :- "Referring to BJ25/E19.12.27, we should say that the Second Sports car will be the most suitable car to shew the Prince of Wales. We anticipate that the first bodywill be used on the car to run the 10,000 miles in France. The second one will be left at Derby for the Prince of Wales and immediately after that could be sent to the Riviera. If this makes it too late in the season, we should have to push ahead with the third body and use this for the Riviera. "The body which will be shewn the Prince of Wales will have to be completely finished as regards painting. If it is not considered advisable to send a Sports car to London, we should have to getthe chassis painted locally. The mounting of the body could also be done at Derby". I should be glad to know what you consider will be the best arrangement in regard to getting this car finished after the chassis is ready. I should imagine the best thing to do will be to let the second dummy chassis go to Barker's so that they can mount and fit their body and then send it up to Derby so that they can take the body off the dummy and mount it on to the real chassis, painting the chassis at Derby to match the body. You, however, are in much closer touch with the body position than I am and I should therefore like to have your views and recommendations. Have you any idea of how long Barker's are likely to take from the date they get the dummy? What I was wondering was what was going to happen to Jarvis if Barker's take a long time. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} P.S. I understand it has now been decided to call the Sports Chassis the "Alpine Phantom". | ||
