X.3619 - SMALL CHLORIDE BATTERY TYPE 6 BXE 4 X.607
X.3644 - FOR REAR OF FRAME POSITION

A battery of the type 6 BXE4 above, went through the 10,000 mile test on 2 EX on the footboard, the object being to try out the suitability of the capacity of the battery. This battery failed in one cell after 7,000 miles and we have investigated the cause and written to the Chloride Company concerning this, copy of which letter, which is itself of the nature of an experimental report, we attach.

It is considered by us that the fault is really due to faulty manufacture and that had the manufacture been correct, the battery would have been alright from beginning to end. The cells which did not become faulty have proved capable of the work of the starter to which they have been subjected. The only point is that there may be more tendency for the plates to buckle, owing to the smaller capacity, than in the larger battery, therefore, until the Chloride Company have effected a distinct improvement in this respect and it has been proved on another 10,000 mile test, a battery of this size cannot be recommended for standardisation.
