-10- Effective Resilience = 218 inch pounds. 218 x 3.52 = 766 inch pounds per pound of steel. Total energy in 1000 springs equals 1000 x 45 or 45,000 inch pounds. 45,000 ----- 766 = 58.7 lbs/thousand springs of active material. To this must be added say 10% for material in loops or a weight of about 65 lbs. per thousand. As can readily be seen, this method can be used to solve problems for stress and to calculate the minimum amount of steel to absorb a definite amount of energy. | ||
