Concerning your enquiry for the sub-divided costs relative to the above scheme, you will appreciate that to give satisfactory individual estimates would entail a considerable amount of research. It is highly probable that when the job comes on production, the Brake Drums will not be produced as sand-castings, but possibly as B.O. or R.R. Die-castings, or even possibly as forgings.

For the purpose of your enquiry however, we have based our estimate on Drums produced as R.R. sand-castings.

The figures below represent the estimated Factory cost including charges of one Brake Drum. In the case of the suggested scheme, Liners and fixings are included, and in the case of the present standard, end plate and fixings are included.

Proposed Present
Scheme method
Front (each Drum) £2. 16. 6. £1. 4. 5.
Rear (each Drum) £3. 8. 3. £1. 6. 6.

Replying to your final paragraph, the factory cost including charges of one pair of Rear Brake Shoes complete with Auxiliary shoes is £1. 0. 2. of which amount the Auxiliary Shoe portion is responsible for 9/4 per pair. The figures apply to either the rear near or offside of the axle.

You will of course understand that if the Auxiliary Shoes were deleted from the rear of the chassis the saving would not be 18/8 but 18/8 less the increased cost of the then larger liners and Brake Shoes.
