P1300. July 16th.1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/AP. F.O.Hickling Esq., Messrs Ransome & Marles Bearing Co., NEWARK-ON-TRENT Dear Mr.Hickling, When Mr.Grylls was last at Newark he left with you the remains of a steering roller with 0.312 balls and which had failed on our rig under one quarter of the load applied to the previous roller of the same type. The only difference in the case of the second test was that the load was applied normal to an outer tooth flank instead of the inner flank. So far as we can see the load capacity should be no worse in this test than in the normal one. If you can find any reason for the early failure we should be very glad to hear about it. Will you please return the remains of the roller at your convenience. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
