It is anticipated that after 250 chassis we shall in cooperation with Messrs. Lucas, have improved the Lucas battery to suit our requirements, and that this battery will then be used in conjunction with the new type box.

HIGH TENSION AND IGNITION WIRING. X.8444.

The Falcon wiring tube has been found to come in very well for the chassis, and 500 sets will be made of this tube. A number of Falcon tubes are in stock already for use, and no delay will occur in this connection.

THERMOMETER CONNECTION ON ENGINE. X.3565.

The Works will be immediately instructed regarding the addition to the top water pipe which is necessary to accomodate the bulb for the thermometer, and 250 sets will be ordered in this way. It is desired to fit this bulb for later chassis (after 250) directly in the radiator, in order that the dismantlement of cylinders can be effected without disturbing the thermometer bulb and tube. The manufacturing of 250 sets in this case instead of the full 500, is thought to be reasonable in view of the class of work to be undertaken, but in the event of disagreement regarding this number I would like you to consider that-if-necessary the matter as being open for discussion. It is also agreed that if necessary the first few chassis will be delivered without thermometers at all, but these can always be fitted merely by changing the top water pipe, providing space is allowed on the instrument board according to the standard design for this part. The design for the water pipe fitting is similar to that at present on 49-GB.

COIL AND BALLAST RESISTANCE. X.8129.

There is likely to be some little delay regarding coil boxes, as we understand from Messrs. B.T.H. that the moulds are not expected in until the end of next week, we therefore cannot expect any boxes until the end of next week or the beginning of the week after, and the coils have then to be completed in the Works.

Arrangements have been made for the inner cover to be turned from block ebonite for the first few chassis, and this material is expected in to-day or tomorrow. It we are ultimately delayed for the moulded top covers of the coil boxes it is thought that these also can be made from block ebonite, and the position is now being judged in order to decide whether to obtain this material or not.

Regarding the ballast resistance, some unavoidable delay has occurred in the design, but the scheme is now nearing completion and will be sent to Mr. Royce for approval to-day. The work on this part is not extensive, and it is not thought that this will be a cause of delay in the delivery of chassis.
