RHO. c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ~~Des~~ BY.1/G.22.9.37. SILENT GEARS. I did not intend to start a controversy by my memo on the above subject. In RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Mc.W's reply the first page and half is irrelevant, paragraph 2 apparently suggests I was not able to define the limits within which gears could be described as accurately produced. I did not set out to do this, however, I had already covered this ground in a memo some six months ago. My memo has not been sufficiently carefully read, I did not suggest an eccentric base circle block, but one of a specific amount smaller to which was eccentrically mounted the gear to be ground - this error in reading my memo vitiates all the criticism offered in this connection. Finally, if we are already getting quiet gears regularly I will agree my effort was unnecessary and misdirected. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
