Martindale} In the frame cross, approximately lined up with the 'U' section cross member, which carries the rear engine mounting, four deep gashes are cut through the lower upturned edges of the cross flanges. In the Experimental schemes, these gashes appear, though much less in depth, but in the scheme which went into production G.CD.477 they are omitted, and it will be seen that there is no longer any need for them, clearance being adequate without. Unfortunately, they do not seem to have been removed from the detail. As they are a source of weakness, this should be done immediately, and no more frames come in with them. Will BY/NS.{Norman Scott} issue an instruction to ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} to have this modification carried out immediately. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
