Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 6003 12th. April 1938. Messrs.S.Smith & Sons, Ltd., Cricklewood works, LONDON, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr.Nicholls. Dear Sirs, We have at present on order from you 509 Oil gauge and Thermometer units to drawings D.75953 and D.76070, 100 on O/N.57888, 200 on O/N.34880 and 209 on O/N.54760. Of these none have been delivered against O/N.57888, 158 against O/N.34880 and none against O/N.54760. We are likely to want to modify the dial on the 100 instruments ordered under O/N.57888. The modification being the omission of the red line on dial and the insertion of the figure 100°C at the appropriate position on the dial. Alternatively, we could return the dial used previously, before the red line was introduced. Can you please give us the following information by return if possible. (1) What delay, if any, would either of these alterations make in the delivery of instruments against O/N.57888 ? Are the dials finished, and if so is it possible to modify them in this manner. (2) What will be the approximate cost of the modifications to these 100 instruments. (3) If as a result of this modification it would be necessary to order two types of instrument in future, the only difference in them being their dials. What exact effect will this have on the future prices quoted for these instruments. (£1.0.0 each at present.) (4) Which modification is most convenient to you. The omission of the red line and insertion of the 100°C figure at appropriate point, | ||
