X.4342L - LUCAS MOTOR FOR "GOSHAWK II".

This motor has a particularly neat appearance, the carcase being of nickel plate finish, like the Lucas Goshawk dynamo and the C.A.V. machines. The field poles and field coils are well finished off, the field poles being solid and secured fton the carcase by two screws. All connections appear to be well carried out. Box type brush holders are fitted with spiral wire spring, the insulation of the brush holders being by means of plates of Continental Bakelite. The brushes are of C.M.3 qhality Morganite, each brush having two well insulated pig-tails. Four brushes at 90° are provided. This is necessary in this case as the armature is lap wound. There are a relatively large number of slots (29) and a comparatively small commutator. There are banding wires on the armature.

Ball bearings are provided at either end and an oilway is provided at the driving end.
