Thinking this difference of balance when not full of lubricant might be due to lumps of grease settling in various places, we cleaned a joint that had been balanced and ran it in the car empty. It caused considerable vibration. When about half full of oil vibration was still present, but when completely full the shaft again ran smoothly. We are shortening a Bentley Hardy Spicer joint to run it on a Ph.III car. We consider an R.R. design of this type of Joint should be designed and tested for production as soon as possible.
