Laboratory report on the chemical analysis, Brinell hardness, and microscopic examination of a steering lever.

Carbon .40 hdb Manganese .64 Nickel 3.68 Phosphorus .027 it The analysis indicates that this is a rather hard N.S. but should be conformable to our ordinary heat treatment. The Brinell hardness at the big end was 285-277. at the small end it was only 255. (close to fracture) It is rather difficult to explain this variation. Microscopic examination showed that the steel was not exceptional in the amount of slag present, and that it was satisfactory in structure. HclD | ||
