COPY -9/12/14 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R11/IB11214. 1st December 1914. Re Head Lamps. - Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}6/L231114. L 130/ With reference to head lamps, I quite agree that there is every reason to believe that the Ediswan spiral filament is an excellent bulb for the purpose of a head lamp. With reference to the lamps themselves, you will remember that the very large size lamps were considered a source of danger owing to their preventing sufficient clearance for the starting handle, and covering up the radiator to some extent. I am, therefore, a little bit anxious to know whether the C.A.V. large model "F" lamp is a practical one to fit to the front of our car. My own impression is that given the same percentage of accuracy and quality in the reflector, I cannot see very much benefit from having a larger lamp, and if there is any difficulty or materially increased expense in fitting the large model "F", I should be glad if you will let us know if there are any other lanterns that will give equally good results in a smaller size. We are particularly interested in the Lucas lantern, and we should be glad to know if the Lucas lamps on chassis 58NA{Mr Nadin} are as large as the C.A.V. large model "F" lamp. It is | ||
