R.Y. FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to S.G. Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M7.1.30. x3806. x840. CENTRALISED CHASSIS LUBRICATION. CONVEYING OIL ON TO THE AXLES. We send herewith N. sch. 3007. shewing a method of conveying the pressure oil on to the rear axle by a coil spring inside the shackle pin. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has approved of the general idea, but we have to send a print to him for final confirmation. We are sending the drawing to you in order that you may see whether you can get the rather small diameter tube we are asking for, in either stainless steel or hard drawn brass. We enquired on this point some little while ago, but so far have had no reply, and we should very much like the samples of the standard brass tube which we asked for. We have endeavoured not to alter the spring as we believe this would represent a difficulty in Derby. If this is not so we should be glad if you would tell us as it would considerably simplify the design if we could modify the spring. Please send us an extra print for R.{Sir Henry Royce} We have several schemes for dealing with the front axle and shall be sending you a drawing in the course of a day or two.
