Dear Sir: Re: American Bosch Ignition on 4-EX (1) COIL: Regarding recent letters on this subject, both from Mr. Royce and Mr. Hives, we are very loth to approach the American Bosch Co. on the subject of making up a special coil to fit in our coil case for the following reasons: (a) We have found in all cases where we have requested these people for special work, that due to the complete way in which they are organized to produce standard work, their quotations for special work are unreasonably high, and a great deal of confusion arises with their Sales Dept. as to what we actually require. (b) The coil made to our designs would not be interchangeable with their standard coil, and we should therefore suffer, as we do now, from insufficient service facilities. (The present coil they send us is not specially wound. It is designed for 6 volts, but the only change they have made for our 12 volt system is to put more turns on the ballast resistance). We could scarcely expect the Bosch Co. to stock their Service Stations with/coils of our design. If anything goes wrong with a coil, it is desirable to replace it with a new one at once, rather than take time to repair the old one. (c) The standard Bosch coil is well made, and while it does not claim to work under water, it is supposed to be "rain-proof". We think that test would show the Bosch coil to be rain-proof. | ||
