X.3604cr. {Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester} PRODUCTION TEST OF PAPER DIELECTRIC CONDENSER FOR GOSHAWK BATTERY IGNITION. X.4430.

(1) It is assumed that each condenser, after production and before encasing, will be stored for a day or two previous tp test under conditions which will enable it reasonably to settle down in capacity.

(2) The condenser, still out of its case, shall be tested by applying to its terminals an alternating voltage of 400 (R.M.S.) for a period of one minute, through a light fuse, without breakdown.

(3) Now verify that the condenser is capable of holding a static charge. If this is the case, the condenser, after being disconnected from the 400 volt supply, should be capable of producing a spark, when one end of a wire, the other end of which is connected to one condenser terminal, be brought in contact with the other terminal.

(4) The condenser shall now undergo a preliminary test for capacity, being pieced in series with an A.C. milli-ammeter reading up to 30 milli-amperes, across an alternating voltage round about 200, at a frequency of 50.7 when the milli-amperes of capacity current taken by the condenser shall, for 200 volts, lie between the limits and .

(5) If satisfactory as regards (2), (3) and (4), the condenser shall now be fitted up in its case.

(6) The condenser, now in its case, shall be again tested by applying to its terminals a voltage of 400 (R.M.S.) for a period of one minute.
